For centuries people have had a fascination with reproducing objects on a Lilliputian scale. Since 1992, the New York Jewish Film Festival has been the premier showcase for work by Jewish filmmakers from around the world. Presented by the Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, this year’s festival takes place January 924 and showcases documentaries, features, and short films that illuminate the Jewish experience, including films from Israel, Russia, and Mexico. The program includes three films two silent and one in Yiddish made between 1922 and 1931. One pilgrimage takes fans to more than 40 spots used in The Sopranos, including, of course, the Bada Bing. Let’s hope Uncle Junior isn’t driving the bus. Another tour visits Sex and the City hot spots, with tour guides dressed like Carrie. You’ll be knocked off your rocker by Alley Theatre’s musical Love, Janis, about the legendary belter Janis Joplin. The raunchy musical, which runs January 11February 10, covers the last four years of the Port Arthur, Texas, native’s life, up to her death at age 27, and features thrilling performances of Joplin classics including “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Mercedes Benz.” (Continental is an official sponsor of the Alley Theatre.) 713.220.5700; alleytheatre.org For a taste of something just as cool, enter 13 Celsius, a new wine bar and gourmet deli in Houston’s Midtown.
