From the Editor![]() There are few jobs that inspire as much envy in editorial circles as Eric Tegler’s current assignment. Eric’s been the, ahem, driving force behind our “Go for a Spin” column since January, when it debuted. For the past 12 months, he’s put a new car through its paces and reported back on how it handled. Of course, it hasn’t been your average ordinary four-door sedan or pick-up truck, but a top-of-the-line performance vehicle. Nice gig. How do you get such a great job? Well, it helps to know something about cars. Eric has been covering the auto industry for well-respected auto publications such as Hemmings and Auto Week, among others, for eight years. This month, he contributes his usual test drive on Mercedes’ latest and also adds in a dispatch about the finer points of Scotch. (When he’s not writing about cars or aviation, he’s covering the rough and tumble world of luxury goods.) I’m obligated, of course, to note that he finished the test drive before he began working on his guide to Scotch. If you can’t get enough of looking at some of the coolest cars on the planet — and really, who can? — motor on over to browse our online archives for a year’s worth of Eric’s “Go for a Spin” columns. And beginning next month, the chance to view the featured car from every angle. Happy travels and good reading. Michael Buller, Editor
ContributorI loved the article in the September issue by Michelle da Silva Richmond, “The Many Faces of Mexico.” She really captured the Mexican spirit and the different personalities of Mexico’s cities. I was a little disappointed, though, that Richmond didn’t include Monterrey. It is Mexico’s industrial capital, and although it might seem rough and dull at first sight, it is a vibrant city. Most of Mexico’s multinational companies — like CEMEX, Vitro, Bimbo, Gruma (Mazeca), and Cervecería Cuauhtémoc, among others — were born in Monterrey and still have their headquarters there. Downtown Monterrey boasts the Macroplaza, the world’s largest park, home to Neptune’s fountain, the Palacio de Gobierno (City Hall), and other state buildings. Across the street you can find MARCO, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and a few blocks down on the street behind, you will find the Museum of Mexican History. Visitors looking for ecological attractions will enjoy Chipinque National Park or a delightful walk in the mountains. If they are looking for a little bit more excitement, they will very much enjoy the Huasteca Canyon and its renowned climbing wall. Monterrey really is a first-world city within a developing country.
