THE ELEMENTS OF POWER DRESSING remain unchanged this fall: impeccable tailoring, luxurious fabrics, and classic styling that’s gotten a little leaner in lines in recent seasons. But what is different are the distinctive twists some designers have added, the subtle but unmistakable surprises that make a man stand out. — Kathleen Beckett

1. Jhane Barnes updates the staid pinstripe suit, adding stripes of tan, cognac, and blue to a charcoal black flannel base, in a nod to all the color that continues to make a fashion statement. $995. jhanebarnes.com.
2. Couturier Loris Diran’s shirts are so fashionable they clad Stanley Tucci in The Devil Wears Prada. Here, Diran gives a white cotton voile shirt a touch of luxury by lining the collar and cuffs with Thai silk in a paisley print. Shirt, $375; tie, $120. lorisdiran.com.
3. The designers at Perry Ellis pumped up the style by giving the classic camel overcoat a sleek, single-breasted line and longer, mid-calf length. $325. perryellis.com.
4. Billy Reid took a typical black wingtip power shoe and “refreshed” it, making it a little sleeker and giving the high-quality leather an antiqued whiskey finish. And it’s all handmade. $295. billyreid.com.
