Welcome aboard, and on behalf of my more than 40,000 co-workers, I'd like to thank you for choosing Continental for your flight today. During your trip, you may have noticed a different symbol next to the Continental logo on your boarding pass or on airport signage. That symbol indicates a major development at Continental: our membership with Star Alliance, which officially started on October 27, 2009, with a ceremony at Newark Liberty International Airport, our New York-area hub. Star Alliance will offer great benefits for our customers and co-workers and the communities we serve. This time last year, Continental belonged to a different alliance. But when two of the large airlines in that alliance merged, we needed to reassess the best path for Continental going forward. Speculation was rampant that we would merge with another airline, but we decided that merging wasn't the best choice for Continental. Instead, we chose a better option: joining Star Alliance. Our route network is a great fit with those of our new Star Alliance partners. We bring to the alliance our strength as the New York area's leading carrier, as well as our presence in Latin America, while Star Alliance increases our reach across the Pacific and to Eastern Europe and Africa. Star Alliance is the world's largest, oldest, and most comprehensive global airline alliance. You can read more about the many benefits for passengers in our cover story here. In the year and a half since we decided to join Star Alliance, my co-workers have worked tirelessly to make the transition seamless for our customers. Because our partnership with Star Alliance affects so many areas of our business, from our technology platforms to our OnePass program to our airport operations, co-workers from across the system have been involved in the transition. I want to thank them for doing a great job. While our strength in New York and Latin America will be a great asset to Star Alliance, the best thing we bring to the table is my team of co-workers. Speaking of outstanding co-workers, this month I'd like to draw your attention to Donna Thibedeau. Donna operates a therapeutic horseback riding center, and you can read more about her here. On
behalf of the entire Continental team, thanks again for your business, and welcome
to Star Alliance. We look forward to seeing you on Continental or one of our new
Star Alliance partners in the future. Photograph: Mark Green |
