Welcome aboard Continental Airlines. On behalf of my more than 42,000 co-workers, thank you for choosing to fly with us today. We take pride in offering industry-leading service and an award-winning product, and we look forward to meeting your needs on this and every flight you take with us. In these uncertain economic times, it is more important than ever that we focus on the fundamentals of clean, safe, and reliable air transportation. For more than a decade, Continental's road map for keeping our focus on those fundamentals has been our Go Forward Plan. The Go Forward Plan has four cornerstones that address the different aspects of our operation, and under each cornerstone are goals that we set out to accomplish each year. One of those four cornerstones is called Working Together, and it concerns the most important ingredient in Continental's success: our people. Our Working Together culture continues to pay off: this year, Fortune magazine ranked Continental No. 1 on its annual airline industry list of the World's Most Admired companies. Thanks to my co-workers' consistency and professionalism, this is the sixth year in a row that Continental has received this honor. When we make sure we're giving our co-workers the tools they need to succeed, both on the job and off, the sky is the limit in terms of what they can achieve. For example, we believe it is very important to offer educational opportunities to our co-workers, both on the job and off. Through the Continental Scholarship Fund, we are able to give co-workers and their dependents assistance in pursuing higher education. Since 2002, the fund has assisted more than 1,000 co-workers or dependents. My co-workers raise money throughout the year for the Scholarship Fund through contributions and special fundraisers, such as our annual Continental Management Association Casino Night. Co-workers also regularly contribute to a fund for Continental employees called We Care. The fund provides financial assistance to Continental employees who are struggling through difficult times; for example, We Care provided aid to numerous employees after Hurricane Ike hit Texas. I cannot thank the Continental team members enough for their generosity in supporting these two amazing causes, giving new meaning to the word "teamwork." The employee I'd like to spotlight this month also knows a little something about giving back to the community: HR manager Heather Gordon. You can read more about Heather here.
